Introduction

  • Luminar 4 is a stand alone photo editor for Windows and Mac. It can also be used as a Photoshop or Lightroom extension.
  • It makes extensive use of Artificial Intelligence to simplify editing by trying to analyse images to recognise parts of an image, such as skin or sky, so that the editing you want to do to these areas is content aware and limited to the appropriate areas without you having to create masks.
  • It has a section for advanced face and skin editing.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  • Luminar has several features based on artificial Intelligence (AI) which seem to be unique to this software and work incredibly well.
  • AI Structure.
  • AI Portrait Enhancer.
  • AI Skin Enhancer.
  • AI Sky Replacement - Luminar is the only software to have this feature and it works really well. There is a built-in library of skies to use or you can use your own. There is also a Relight slider which recolours the foreground to match the sky better.
  • These AI effects can be replicated on other image to batch process them to give the same look.

Negative Points

  • It will not export large files suitable for printing. (To confirm)
